“Start all new TV's, Radio's within 45 days” Media ministry

Media ministry of sri Lanka announced today that all media institutes who have TV radio licenses should starts their transmission within 45 days. Media ministry have given more than 46 TV and Radio license( including 15 TV license) within last six years and most of the license given with in last couple of years. Secretary of the media ministry Mr. Ganegala told that some of these License owners not yet started their media institutes and some owners trying to sell their license even to the government media. Further he says media ministry has every right to take back issued license when the license owner sell the license to another person or group and there is a danger of going these license to the wrong hands.

As we believe in this decision there is a good side and bad side. Good side is from this decision government can stop the transactions or control the transactions of TV radio license. Government should know and government has every right know who owns the licenses and what are they doing. As national security point of view this is a good decision. But few questions to be asked.

Is this threat to CBNSat again?

Is this order just for stop changing hands of comet cable? (Buyer is still not sure some says Srilakvahini, but we are not sure)

Or find frequencies to issue new license?

What ever now we are making a list of license owners (who have permission to operate TV radio in Sri Lanka) and we will bring a complete list within next few days...

“Max TV(MGM TV)” Tower moves to Colombo from Weliveriya

MGM Networks TV channel Max TV test transition named as MGM TV currently stopped their transition. Because they are moving there tower to Colombo from Weliweriya. Lot of viewers in Colombo complains about the reception of Max TV during their test transition period. So the management of the MGM network decided to move their tower to Colombo. We don’t have details about max TV’s new tower location and now weliweriya tower is on the ground. With in few days time max TV resume test transmission again. However we expect good reception with the new move. Kandy viewers also complain about picture quality which they are receiving is not crystal clear. That tower is situated at Hanthana mountain with 150% powerful than ITN transmitter in Kandy.

As the latest news MAX TV starts their full commercial transition from 17 January 2007(Not confirm yet). And they plan to expand their coverage all around the country.

“SIRASA” Create good one out of thousand bad

“Sirasa TV” in sri Lanka believed to be showing cheap, bad, bias entertainment programmers only targeting profits. They don’t think about Sri Lankan culture or our younger once future. And some people call it “Sinhala koti hada” because some people believe sirasa shows lot of sympathy to the Tamil tiger terrorists.

But Sirasa TV produced program called “Sirasa premier league cricket” recently with joining hands with “Sri Lanka Cricket”. That program is very popular and “sirasa” is giving good publicity to the premier league cricketers and the game of cricket. This is good for the future of cricket in
Sri Lanka. As we think this is good move by Sirasa TV and fm. As a national media they must think about their social responsibility.

V Fm expand their coverage

Sri Lanka's 27 th radio station, V Fm expand their broadcast island wide from January 1 st. Sri lanka television network private limited says "we are planning to broadcast 24 hours sinhala programmes". V Fm broadcast through 107.6 MHz colombo, 104 MHz rajarata and 100.4 MHz southern province and uva. Now also we can listen V Fm through this frequencies.

Sri Lanka telecom conferms to fix the problem soon

The reason for the dropping of the speed was the earthquake nearby Indonesian sea area. That costs by damaging the cables laid beneath the ocean.Because of this disastrous situation many internet providers have lost their speed and even some countries have lost their internet service completely.

However slt was not such affected because they have several backbones. And also they have satellite connection to provide internet services to Sri Lanka. But some ISPs in Sri Lanka was completely down. This slowing problem is only for ADSL connections and other broadband services , not for dial up connections. And the problem is occurred only for some parts of the country. For example southern province is not affected by the problem.

What ever it is slt confirms they are going to rearrange their network connections before Jan 15th 2007.
