"We don't want press council"-Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka

A public gathering to protest activation of the press council is schedule to take place in Colombo. Gathering is Organized by the Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Working Journalists’ Association, the Media Workers Trade Unions’ Alliance, the Sri Lanka Muslim Journalists’ Association, the Sri Lanka Tamil Journalists’ Association, the Free Media Movement and the National Forum of Journalists, the gathering would voice its protest against the attempt to activate the Press Council, thereby thwarting the freedom of the press

But majority in Sri Lanka believe press council is must for controll undoings of media companies and journalists. Press council is a place where anyone can complain about injustices, harassment or any other wrong doing of media companies or journalist.
