Hutch goes to 500.000

Hutchison Telecom Sri Lanka achieved the 500,000 mark in its subscriber base since it launched its full mobility GSM operations in 2004. Within this 2 year period, the company has offered its growing subscriber base a choice of packages to suit different needs and lifestyles.

Today Hutch covers the western province & all major towns except for the Northern region, providing mobile telecommunication services at an affordable price. The company currently in a state of rapid network expansion is striving to increase & reach population coverage of 90%. The challenge has been a tedious and uphill task in achieving this significant feat, due to the local operating environment. Furthermore, Hutch Sri Lanka has been able to achieve this milestone with a staff strength of only 220.

This accomplishment was achieved with the clear vision that drives the company to ‘connect every Sri Lankan’ ‘offering the best tariff’s’ at the most ‘attractive entry cost’ along with the dedication and commitment of the staff, management and its stake holders. As a token of appreciation, the management hosted all of its employees to lunch as part of the celebrations on the 31st of October 2006.

Mr. Thiru Nadarasa CEO of Hutch Sri Lanka attended a simple gathering together with all staff to mark the event. Speaking at this occasion he said “I want to congratulate all of you on your contributions to this great achievement which would have seemed impossible only a few years ago! I hope I would be able to count on all of you for your dedication, commitment and unparallel support for the coming years as we continue to grow rapidly”.
With cellular mobile penetration levels still at around 20%, Hutch will continue to strive in its mission to deliver a ‘mobile connection to every Sri Lankan’.
